Your Ultimate Guide to Wedding Morning Timelines

How to navigate the world of wedding hair and makeup schedules

Makeup products and makeup brushes on a table

Hey there, lovely brides-to-be! If you're in the midst of wedding planning and wondering about the ins and outs of your wedding morning, you've come to the right place! As a seasoned hair and makeup artist, I've got all the tips and tricks to ensure your morning glam goes off without a hitch. Let’s talk about the importance of a well-planned wedding morning schedule. Trust me when I say, the morning sets the tone for the entire day, and we want nothing but good vibes and glam for you!

Ceremony Time

Ceremony times and venue logistics are key players in shaping your morning prep. Depending on when and where you tie the knot, we'll need to adjust our timings accordingly. Early ceremony? We'll need an early start! Plus, if you're getting ready off-site, you’ll need to factor in travel time to the venue. As a rule of thumb, it is good to be ready and dressed at least 1 hour prior to your ceremony starting, to allow time to meet with registrars, have some photographs, and enjoy a glass of bubbly!

Hair and Makeup Timings

Now, let's get real about hair and makeup timings. Contrary to popular belief, we can't whip up a bridal glam in five minutes flat. For that flawless bridal look, I typically allocate around 2-2.5 hours for the birde’s hair and makeup combined. Bridesmaids and mums get their own slots too, ranging from 30-40minutes for hair or makeup separately, or up to 1.5 hours for both hair and makeup (depending on requirements). Quality over speed is my mantra – your hair and makeup not only need to look AMAZING, but also needs to last all day and look flawless in the photographs!

Venue Access Times

Venue access times can throw a spanner in the works, with some venues restricting early entry. It is important to check with your venue what their access time is well in advance, so that your hair and makeup artist can factor this into the schedule. Don't fret – we'll work around it! If necessary, you might need to start with hair and makeup at another location, such as a nearby hotel, or we can always bring in extra hands to ensure everyone is ready on time.

Photographers

Let's not forget our friends behind the lens – photographers and videographers. They'll be buzzing around to capture those precious pre-wedding moments, so let's coordinate our timings to avoid any clashes. I always advise forwarding your agreed hair and makeup schedule onto your photographer and/or videographer, so that they know the plan!

Early Starts

Early mornings might not be everyone's cup of tea, but hey, it's all part of the wedding day magic! For larger bridal parties, an additional artist (or two) might be required to avoid an early start and to ensure the morning runs smoothly. And trust me, a little extra shut-eye the night before goes a long way! Bear in mind that some artists charge an “early start fee” if they’re required to arrive at a certain time or leave their home in the early hours.

Lateness

Bridesmaid running late? Nip that in the bud by staying together the night before or carpooling to the venue. Ideally everyone needs to be in one place and certainly on-site at least 15 minutes before their time slot, to avoid hiccups in the schedule.

Your wedding morning should be nothing short of fabulous, and I'm here to make sure it is! Let's make sure to chat about your wedding day plans ahead of the big day so we can create a morning that's as relaxed and fun as it should be. Communication is key, so let's work together to make your bridal vision a reality!

And remember, if you've got specific shots or fun bridal content in mind during the wedding morning preparations, give your hair and makeup artist a heads up. We're all about teamwork, and we can try and accommodate this in the schedule for you.

I hope this helps ease your wedding jitters and gets you excited for the big day!
